A HEAVY RAIN ALERT REMAINS IN FORCE FOR VANUA LEVU, TAVEUNI AND NEARBY SMALLER ISLANDS, LAU AND LOMAIVITI GROUP, YASAWA GROUP AND THE EASTERN HALF OF VITI LEVU. Situation: A trough of low pressure remains just to the north of Vanua Levu and is expected to gradually drift south later Associated cloud and showers affects the country. Meanwhile, another trough of low pressure approaches the group from the west and is expected to affect Fiji for the next few days.

Forecast to midnight tonight for the Fiji group: Occasional showers and few thunderstorms over Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, eastern half and interior parts of Viti Levu, Lau and Lomaiviti group and the Yasawa group. Showers are expected to increase and become frequent and heavy later. Elsewhere, cloudy periods with afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms. Showers expected to become frequent.

Isolated heavy falls likely.

Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas. Moderate to fresh east to northeast winds, gusty at times. Rough seas.

Outlook for tomorrow: Rain and thunderstorms over Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti group, the eastern half and interior of Viti Levu. Elsewhere, occasional showers and isolated afternoon and evening heavy falls and thunderstorms.

For Navua / Suva / Nausori: Occasional showers and few thunderstorms. Showers are expected to increase to rain and become frequent and heavy later.

Outlook for Wednesday: Rain and thunderstorms.

For Sigatoka / Coral Coast:

Cloudy periods with afternoon and evening thunderstorms and heavy falls. Showers expected to become frequent later. Outlook for Wednesday: Occasional showers and isolated afternoon and evening heavy falls and thunderstorms.

For Nadi / Lautoka / Ba : Cloudy periods with afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms.
