GOVERNING IS LIKE COOKING SMALL FISH. IT TAKES CARE AND STABILITY
THIS IS NOW THE MOST BRILLIANT DEVELOPMENT PERIOD IN FIJI'S HISTORY

Ihad mentioned this in my previous article. This is an old philosophical saying in China. The meaning of this sentence is that, it takes care and stability to govern a country, just as how we must cook a small fish at home. Being careful, don't be impatient, and don't keep turning it. Otherwise, that small fish will be ruined. Similar to governing a country, then that country will be chaotic. This sentence reflects the simple method of cooking a small fish to express the principle of governing a country.
For the governance of a country, we require the ruling party to act steadily, not to change the policies frequently, and to have a strategic determination. Then, for our voters, we are the masters of the country, and we shoulder the heavy responsibility of electing the ruling party.
If we choose the right ruling party, then it means that our country's future is guaranteed, and our livelihoods will eventually improve. If you choose the wrong ruling party, then it means that our country will encounter setbacks and failures, our quality of life will decline, and our disposable income will eventually diminish.
Most importantly, the current government has formulated the national medium and long-term development plans for 5 and 20 years in a timely manner, which has clarified the direction and goals for its important strategic national development. Only when a country's social and economic development direction is clear, then that country will not make a detour, and thus there will be no major directional mistakes.
At present, Fiji’s international status has also improved significantly. Some examples worth highlighting are: at the Rio Olympics in 2016, the Fijian 7s rugby team won the country’s first gold medal.
Our Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, led the South Pacific Island States to call for global governance on climate change.
From November 2017, Mr Bainimarama upheld the Presidency of the 23rd COP (Conference of the Parties) to the UNFCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) and presided the UN Climate Change Conference in Bonn, Germany, and successively voiced the impacts of climate change on small developing island states on the international stage, thus effectively promoting global governance to take immediate action on climate change.
This shows the leadership, wisdom and demeanour of the Prime Minister of Fiji on the international stage, and does win the national honour and the pride of the Fijian people. Fiji recently won a seat on the UN Human Rights Council with a high score of 187 votes. This again fully demonstrates Fiji’s high status and influence in the international community.
These days, Fiji is becoming more and more famous on the world stage, while the number of tourists visiting Fiji is gradually increasing. Fiji's status as the economic, cultural centre and transportation hub of the South Pacific has in fact been continuously enhanced and strengthened.
At present, Fiji's national economy and international status are in a period of rapid rise. We should cherish this hard-earned great achievement. It can be rightfully said that it is now the most brilliant development period in Fiji's history.
Voters, we need to be more patient and steady like cooking a small fish, less irritable and tossing, to ensure that our country can continue to develop steadily.
Fiji’s destiny is now in the hands of all our electors, and we are the true masters of the country. Of course, the country’s masters must carefully manage our country first.
