Narayan Snatches Sweet Victory At FSC Ground
Azeria Narayan was crowned the Vodafone Rakiraki Carnival Queen 2018 at the Fiji Sugar Corporation Grounds last Saturday night. Minister for Local Government, Housing, Community Development and Infrastructure and Transport, Parveen Kumar was chief guest during the event in the western town.
Ms Narayan, A second-year law student at the University of Fiji attributed her success to her mum who has always been her source of great inspiration.
“I felt overwhelmed to be crowned as Miss Vodafone Rakiraki Festival 2018. I want to thank mum (Radhika) who keeps motivating and rallied support for me throughout the week,” the jubilant Rakiraki Carnival queen said. “We are from Lovu in Lautoka, but my maternal link is here in Rakiraki and that is why I contested for the Miss Vodafone Rakiraki Festival with the encouragement from my maternal side.”
“I was not only happy that I was crowned as Miss Vodafone Rakiraki Queen 2018, but I am absolutely pleased I was able to advocate everything that I have learned from my fellow contestant on a bigger stage.”
She thanked the Rakiraki Town Council, the minister and not forgetting the major sponsor Vodafone for putting the carnival together. “I would like to urge everyone to please remember and put into practice every message that you have heard from my fellow contestants and myself.”
Ms Narayan, who is sponsored by Super Construction and Civil Works Limited, also scooped the Miss Best research presentation. Her mother, is a Real Estate Agent and a single mum to three siblings.
She acknowledged the closeness of mother and daughter as a contributing factor to her daughter being crowned queen on Saturday night.
“Azeria is my one and only daughter and she is my favorite. We are not only mother and daughter but we are good friends,” the proud mum said.
“I always support her in everything she strives for and even for the carnival; I encouraged her to contest and to win the crown.
“It was not always easy being a single mum, but what happened today makes me feel that my relationship with my daughter is worthwhile. I am so proud of her,” Ms Radhika said.
