Former Government MP Balmindra Singh was warned to never reoffend by the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday.

Singh was warned by Magistrate Asanga Bodaragama after the dismissal of his charges of assault causing actual bodily harm against him after the former MP reconciled with the complainant.

It was alleged that Singh assaulted Alfred Sharif, 29, at Desi Haze nightclub in Suva on December 17, 2017.

Singh allegedly punched Mr Sharif in the face and back causing injuries after the complainant went with his girlfriend to the bar at Desi Haze Night Club to buy cigarettes.

They were then served by the exgirlfriend of the complainant. After being served, the man and his girlfriend went to the smoking area where they were approached by Singh.

Singh asked the man for his name and before the complainant could respond, he punched him five times

Singh told the court that he had reconciled with the complainant and agreed to pay the complainant $1500.

Magistrate Bodaragama said he was satisfied and allowed the parties to reconcile.

Mr Sharif asked Singh to not interfere in his life again and to apologise for causing him injuries. Singh was ordered by the court to apologise to Mr Sharif. Magistrate Boadaragama told Singh: “I do not want to see you in court again for such charges.”
