STRONG WIND WARNING REMAINS IN FORCE FOR LAND AREAS OF YASAWA GROUP, SOUTHWEST VITI LEVU, KADAVU AND NEARBY SMALLER ISLANDS, LAU AND LOMAIVITI GROUP AND NORTHERN PARTS OF VITI LEVU. Situation: A deep high pressure system just to the south of Fiji generates a strong southeast wind flow over the group. Forecast to midnight tonight for the Fiji Group: Over Land areas of Yasawa group, Northern parts of Viti Levu, Southwest Viti Levu, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti group: Strong southeast winds with average speeds of 40 to 50 km/hr, gusting to 60km/hr.. Forecast for today: Occasional showers and few thunderstorms over Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, eastern half and interior parts of Viti Levu, Lau and Lomaiviti group and the Yasawa group. Showers are expected to increase and become frequent and heavy later tomorrow. Elsewhere, cloudy periods with afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms.
