Though she travelled quite a distance to and from school, Vika Tuiverata remained focused and steadfast to the end. The Lelean Memorial School student was announced the school dux on Friday.

"One of the greatest challenges I faced was travelling daily to Lelean Memorial School every day since I reside all the way in Nabua," says Vika Tuiverata.

The 18-year-old said that her motivation was her mother, Matelita Loma, who was always vigilant about her studies and pushed her spiritually to pursue better paths. “I dedicate this win to my supportive parents who have always been there for me and not forgetting my form teacher and also English teacher, Aliti Vatumoto, who was more than just a teacher to my Year 13 class family,” she said. “My parents feel overwhelmed and excited knowing that all their commitment and hard work for me for 13 years has paid off. “I did Accounting, Economics, Computer, English and Maths and scooped the best in Accounting and English student.

“I have a greater challenge in front of me because university has bigger challenges and I will try my best to have equivalent or greater achievements in future. “Next year I am looking forward to attend USP to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce programme with the aim of being an accountant,” she said.

To students she advised: “Never give up and keep striving for the best.”
