Central College Year 13 student Jeet Chovhan is thankful to his parents for the continuous support they have given him throughout his secondary school education. Chovhan was named the 2018 Dux of Central College during the school’s convocation night at the Tanoa Waterfront Hotel in Lautoka on Saturday.

He was not expecting the main award of the night, but was overwhelmed with his achievement.

“I feel excited and pretty happy,” he said.

“I really don’t know how I feel actually because there were a lot of awards and I didn’t know I would receive the main award.”

He said this was a blessed moment for him and his family.

“My family has always been supportive they never forced me to do anything according to them they have always thought that I should make my own decisions and be more independent,” he said.

“However, when I felt down and thought that I would not be able to cope with the studies, they were always there to help me.”

He is now aiming for a position at the Fiji School of Medicine and aims to be a pharmacist later on in life.

Meanwhile, chief guest for the event, divisional education officer West, Josefa Gavidi congratulated all students for reaching their Year 13 level and urged them to always make wise decisions.

“Work hard, listen and take heed of parental advice, make wise decisions, become a role model to others and most importantly never give up on yourself,” he said. Edited by Percy Kean
