Recovering from an illness and suffering from a boil did not deter Marrion Faith from attending her graduation at Bethel Kindergarten in Labasa yesterday.

And the strong will by the brave five-yearold to participate has amazed her parents. Her mother, Salailagi Waqabaca, 25, said the strength showed by her daughter was of one that would continue to inspire her.

“She is a strong-willed girl who defied all odds, Marrion managed to attend her graduation,” Mrs Waqabaca said.

“She was feeling weak a week ago and had also developed a boil. She could not even walk because of that and it worried me each day.”

But things did not end there.

Her daughter also had to deliver the opening speech at the graduation ceremony. “She had been practising hard for it and I could see that she was determined to give her best,” Mrs Waqabaca said.

“A night before the ceremony, my daughter told me that she would attend the event no matter what.

“I was shocked as well as happy to see the energy she had within her,” Mrs Waqabaca said.

“Her speech went so well today and I’m really proud of her.

“All the sacrifices she made during the year has finally paid off.” Marrion’s father, Tomasi Waqabaca, 28, said that seeing his daughter graduate from pre-school was a big achievement for his family.

The couple also have another daughter, Angel Debora, aged one.

They intend to send Marrion to Bethel Primary School next year. Edited by Percy Kean
