Julie Chand is excited to join primary school next year. Yesterday, she was one of 19 students to graduate from Wailevu Sanatan Dharam Kindergarten in Labasa.

She added that she was proud to continue with the tradition of graduating from the school where her father had begun.

“Now I am really excited to join primary school,” Julie said.

“My father, Ravinesh Chand and my elder brother, Gideon Chand graduated from this kindergarten,” the second youngest of three siblings said. Another student, Prisha Chand wants to become a doctor when she grows up.

She thanked her parents, who are both medical professionals, for letting her attend the school.

“My teachers, Radhika Ray and Shobna Lata, are very kind and helped me learn many things,” the five year old said.

“I want to thank them for their love and care.” Chief guest Chandra Dip, an assessor of Fiji National University, who has been in public service for 37 years, told the students: “Children, you can treat your parents as friends because they are your first point of contact and they are willing to sacrifice for you.” To the parents, he said: “One of the ways where parents can be constructing spend time with their children is by having a small library at home. “Parents should encourage their children to do reading as this will help them improve English language and easier for them to adjust in the school system.”
