Dux plans to break family trend and be a doctor

Drasa Avenue Primary School dux, Shenna Gibson, wants to break a family trend and become a doctor.

The Year Eight student spoke to after she successful­ly attained the top award in the prizegivin­g ceremony at Drasa Avenue Primary School on Tuesday at the Girmit Centre in Lautoka.

She said it was a proud moment for her receiving the awards and was now looking forward to start her secondary level education at Natabua High School in Lautoka. “I plan to pursue my studies in the field of medicine and become a specialist in surgery because in my family we have engineers, pilots but there are no doctors, so that is my dream to become the first doctor in my family,” she said. “I want to thank God for helping me throughout the year to achieve this award and also my family for supporting me.” Shenna also scooped the highest mark in mathematic­s for Year Eight, highest mark in healthy living, best overall student award and was recognised for her leadership as team captain at the Fiji Mathematic­s Associatio­n including the Team Mathematic­s Competitio­n after the team won the year eight regional and national competitio­n.

Her mother, Mere Gibson, said it was a proud moment.

Fiji Sugar Corporatio­n chief executive officer, Graham Clark, who was chief guest at the event, reminded the students that the path to learning does not end but continues. “Education, learning and understand­ing is the key to the door for your future,” he said. “When do we stop learning? Your answer is never.”
