RFMF: We’re here for you
The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) is here for you, the institution has assured the public.
It is much different now than what it was after the events of 2000, is united under its current commander and will stand by and will support whichever government is elected into power.
This was assurance yesterday from RFMF Land Force Commander (LFC) Colonel Manoa Gadai after a 5-kilometre route march by soldiers from the Land Force Command brigade. The units which took part in the march included the Third Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment (3FIR), Engineers Squadron, Logistics Support Unit (LSU), Force Training Group (FTG) and LFC headquarters.
In an interview with the Colonel Gadai made reference to fake news posts on social media claiming there was an impending coup in the works.
“I’m assuring all Fijians that it’s a lie and the RFMF is here for you,” he said.
Colonel Gadai said all Fijians should continue with their normal lives and the RFMF would, at all times, support them.
Under the 2013 Constitution of the Republic of Fiji, he said, the RFMF was mandated to be the guardian of Fiji carrying out the mandate of the people through the national administration.
“It shall be the overall responsibility of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces to ensure at all times the security, defence and well-being of Fiji and all Fijians,” Colonel Gadai said. He maintained that as an institution the RFMF was totally different from what it was in 2000.
The RFMF in 2000, he said, was divided and this led to the cause of instability.
“We now have a very disciplined and united force that fully supports the Commander RFMF,” Colonel Gadai said.
Those who do not toe the line, he said, had left the RFMF. Colonel Gadai said he was pleased with the hard work of the soldiers and thanked the RFMF families for their support and faith they had on the institution.
