Anare Jale Relishes New Role As SODELPA MP

Anare Jale knows the ins and outs of Fiji’s public service. He has worked in it for 36 years in various roles, including being the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Labour, Chief Executive Officer of the Public Service Commission and being Fiji’s Ambassador to the USA. However, it is his new role as a Member of Parliament with the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) that he relishes most.
The 68-year-old said he decided to become a candidate for the general election this year so that he could continue serving the people and to influence policies of Government.
He said one of the major and most pressing issues he wished to see improved was the cost of living.
“I am excited and have been looking forward to this opportunity. I have worked in the
Government before, but now it’s the policy decision making and I am looking forward to be part of it,” Mr Jale said.
“My plan for the next four years is service. We have the manifesto of the party that we need to see that it is implemented because it is our promise to the people.
“I know that the FijiFirst Government will be the Government of the day, but we have an obligation to the people that voted us in to see that some of the things that we promised them are fulfilled.”
Mr Jale said he would work with the FijiFirst Government to ensure that the people were looked after. “SODELPA will have to discuss with the Government of the day because there are areas that are common that we can work together to achieve,” he said.
“I think the issue about the cost of living for people is an issue that has been coming out. All the parties want to see that the burden of running of the family is taken care of in terms of the cost of living, especially the basic food items.”
He is one of the vice-presidents of SODELPA.
