Chiefs, Jets In Nadi Final

The Jolame Luvevou captained- Koroba Chiefs will take on Bonunaqele Jets in the grand final of the Jack’s Nadi Rugby Union franchise competitio­n this Saturday.

In the semi-finals, Chiefs beat Coastal Herons 29-12 and scoring five tries to two at Prince Charles Park, Nadi last Saturday.

Chiefs started strongly as they led 24-0 at halftime while Herons centre Jovesa Naivalu put on a man of the match performanc­e. Chiefs assistant coach Male Ranawai said the game was a tough one as the Coastal Herons put on gutsy performanc­e in the second half.

“They tried but it was too late,” he said. “The Chiefs put on a grand display of rugby. “We’re thankful to the Nadi Rugby Union and sponsors Jack’s of Fiji for putting on the franchise competitio­n.”

DOWN TO THE WIRE

In the other semi-final, the Jets came from behind to edge out Rukuruku Highlander­s 3830 in extra time.

The Jets came from a 10-24 deficit to level the scores 30-30 at full-time.

Games committee coordinato­r Jeff Tamata said there were six teams competing and four have played in the semi-finals while the top two play in the final on Saturday.

“As you have known that this is the first year we have introduced the franchise competitio­n. About 240 best players have been chosen from the clubs to compete in the competitio­n.

“This is the first time for us to introduce the competitio­n and we are so thankful that developmen­t officers from Fiji Rugby Union and the Oceania reps were here to assist us in running of the programme on the day,” he added.
