The Stingers and Marist Women stole the show after winning the Mates Hockey Inter-Club tournament at Nadovu grounds, Lautoka on Sunday.

In the men’s final Stingers ran away with a 3-0 win over Naidrodro. Earlier on Stingers led by Terence Corrie beat Ventures 2-1 in the second semi-final.

The first semi-final saw Ba’ Naidrodro edged out Blue Star of Lautoka 6-5.

Corrie said he was proud of the players’ efforts.

“This has been one of the successful years for the club as we won two out of three tournaments,” he said. “We have three tournaments in a year. The first one was the Valerie Daveta Memorial tournament where we lost in the final to Ventures. Then the Marist tournament, then this one which we have won.” He said winning the tournament also came with the challenge of playing on grass.

“It’s always good experience to play on grass, we have always had the pleasure of playing on the turf in Suva and it is always a good challenge to adapt to grass hockey where it all started from. “This year’s preparations have been good as we put on the extra yards during training Meanwhile, Elita Williams of Marist was the the toast of the side after she scored the winning goal in the final against Stingers.

In the first semi-final, Stingers won 2 – 0 over Rockefellas while in the second semi-final Marist Women thrashed Blue Star 8 – 0.
