‘Weatherman’ Kumar Was A Remarkable Person: Bala

Dubbed the “weatherman”, Fiji Meteorolog­ical Service Director, the late Ravind Kumar’s contributi­on to the Fijian people was praised at his residence in Waqadra, Nadi yesterday.

Family, friends and colleagues gathered in numbers to farewell Mr Kumar who served 31 years and was promoted to Director Meteorolog­ical in 2015.

Delivering an eulogy at the funeral gathering, FijiFirst elected member Parveen Bala praised Mr Kumar for his contributi­on and the work he has done over the years for the Fiji Meteorolog­ical Service.

Mr Bala said, “I can say today that the nation had lost a very honest, faithful, sincere and hardworkin­g man. I have had the privilege of working with such a remarkable person.”

He said the late Mr Kumar was heavily involved in trying to ensure the Fiji Meteorolog­ical Office grew to greater heights.

Acting Director Fiji Meteorolog­ical Viliame Vereivalu said they were deeply shocked and saddened with the untimely passing of Mr Kumar.

Mr Vereivalu said he was hardworkin­g, committed and an inspiratio­n to the staff members. “He was of exceptiona­l good character with a great personalit­y and showed kindness to anyone he came across.

The late Mr Kumar 53, passed away on Sunday at the Nadi Hospital following a heart attack. He is survived by his wife and two children.

He was cremated at the Wailoaloa Cemetery in Nadi.
