Teacher Plays Big Role in Student’s Creativity
Jeremih Taukei of Labasa Sangam (SKM) College impressed a panel of judges and audience when he took his hydraulic excavator model to the Internal Moderation programme.
The programme involves schools in the north regrouping and showing off engineering models created by the students.
His model was the most impressive. Yesterday, the Year 13 student received the Best Designer in Technology Award during the school prizegiving ceremony.
Jeremih said his technical drawing teacher, Romeen Chandra, played a crucial role in the project.
“He helped me all throughout the project and always gave me new ideas as to how I could make it better,” he said. “He is the best teacher I’ve had. This model was designed to help ease the construction works.
“As we move with modernisation, with development of infrastructure, there is a need for efficient machinery in carrying load.
He said the method he employed in the construction of the model would have save costs.
But winning the award came as a surprise to him. “I never thought that my model would be chosen as the best,” he said.
Mr Chandra said Jeremih was working hard consistently throughout the year.
“He was dedicated right from day one and with a little help, he managed to succeed,” said Mr Chandra.
Jeremih plans to pursue studies in engineering from next year.
