Carter linked to Global Rapid Rugby Competition
Perth: All Blacks great Dan Carter is reportedly among the star players that billionaire Andrew Forrest is hoping to attract to his new Global Rapid Rugby competition.
Mining magnate Forrest earlier this month revealed plans for his revamped World Series Rugby, with a new name, and its set to include teams from Hawaii and Hong Kong.
Singapore, Malaysia, Samoa and Fiji are also in line to commit to the proposed eight-team tournament that includes the Western Force, who were booted out of Super Rugby following the 2017 season.
The Daily Telegraph report that Carter and former Wallabies utility back Matt Giteau are among the names being considered for up to 20 marquee players in the competition that will have no salary cap and several rule changes.
Former All Blacks first-five Carter, 36, has recently been playing in Japan for Kobelco Steelers. Forrest, who owns the Perth-based Force team, told the Daily Telegraph that interest in his competition was sky-high but he wouldn’t expand on what players he claimed were contacting him.
Global Rapid Rugby has been sanctioned by World Rugby and Rugby Australia has given the tournament the green light.Global Rapid Rugby would kick off within the next three months, running from February to June, and Forrest said that was enough time for the competition to get off the ground.
There would be 14 rounds, 56 games and four finals and matches would last 70 minutes.-Rugby Heaven
