Mother’s struggles drive Ariza to excel

- WATI TALEBULA Edited by Naisa Koroi

Watching her single mother working tirelessly everyday was the biggest motivator for Ariza Arnaz Khan. That same motivation saw her receive the leadership award during the Suva Muslim Primary School prizegiving ceremony yesterday.

“My mother single handedly raised my siblings and I. I can see the hardship she goes through, but she never complained. I am thankful that the Government gives free education and this has provided some relief for my hardworking mother,” Ariza said after the prizegiving yesterday.

“I want to become a doctor so that I can help people. This way I will be able to support my family financially also.” Azkiya Mohammed, 13, who is also a leadership award recipient, said the teachers had taught her a lot.

“I am honoured to be recognised by the school. This school means a lot to me and I have a lot of memories with my teachers and friends here,” Azkiya said.

“I want to become a film producer in the future because I always have been interest in being in front of a camera.”

Chief guest and lawyer Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, reminded the parents to be there for their children always.

“Parents must encourage your children to study. Education is the key to your child’s life. Stability comes through the access to knowledge. When a child sees his or her parents are both there it is different,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said, he is also a parent of the school.

“Never discourage your children from becoming the best they can be. Never push your

children into a career you want for them. Let them be who they want to become.”
