Fulton Hogan Misses Contract, Considers its Future in Fiji?
Fulton Hogan Hiways is said to be considering its future operations in Fiji after missing out on a key contract. Company management would not comment on the issue.
Nor would their public relations agent in Fiji.
Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) chief executive officer Jonathan Moore said that he was unaware whether the New Zealand roading infrastructure company was reviewing its Fijian operations.
It is understood that Fulton Hogan claim they have not been awarded recent contracts by FRA. “Fulton Hogan holds two maintenance contracts, one in the north and one in the central division,” Mr Moore said.
“They are still doing the northern maintenance contract and in fact they are still doing the central maintenance contract as well. “We can’t stick with the same contractors four to five years; we’ve got to refresh the picture.
“We issued a tender out.
“So they have not been successful for the Central Division tender and that the new contractor is supposed to start in the new year.
“Up until the end of this year, Fulton Hogan is still the Central Division maintenance contractor and they are still the Northern Division maintenance contractor as well.” Mr Moore said Fulton Hogan’s decision on whether they stick around in Fiji or not is entirely up to them.
“They tender for work like anybody else and they have to be very competitive.
“We can’t give preferential treatment to any contractor.”
New contractor
“The Central Division contract for next year has been awarded to China Railways Fifth Group. “The Northern maintenance contract still is with Fulton Hogan,” Mr Moore said.
