- SWASHNA CHAND Edited by Jonathan Bryce

Apair of brothers fulfilled their parents’ dream by receiving top honours at their school.

Rishikul Sanatan College awarded Year 13 student Mohammed Owaifan Ayala, the college dux award. The school also awarded his brother, Mohammas Al-Dousary, with the Year 12 dux award at the annual prizegiving ceremony yesterday.

Both hope to make a career in the medical field.

Speaking about winning his award, Mohammed Owaifan Ayala said: ““There were a lot of difficulties I faced on my way like coping with the syllabus and studying.

“I was able to overcome my difficulties through teachers’ and parents’ support.

“Year 13 for me was all about dedication and hard work because this year determines our future.”

The 18-year-old advised other students to learn to balance everything in life in order in order to achieve good marks. Mohammed Owaifan Ayala hopes to get a scholarship to study abroad. “I want to become a doctor because I want to help everyone,” he said.

His brother, Mohammad AlDousary, said he was glad to achieve his own dux award alongside his brother.

“I worked very hard and I want to do something in medicine just like my brother,” he said.

“My sole purpose is to just help people and being good to people is a great legacy.

“It’s not all about the salary. Helping people will make my presence in this world worthwhile because I believe in an afterlife.”

“There is no struggle that hasn’t been worth it,” said the 17–year-old. Their parents, Shabnam Khaiyum and Mohammad Khaiyum, said they were both proud of their sons and would support them in their chosen career paths.
