Artists should be open to praises and criticism says well-known local Vude artist Laisa Vulakoro. The 58-year-old, who hails from Yacata, Cakaudrove, was among many other artists who were recognised for their passion and love for music during the Procera Music Fiji awards night held at Holiday Inn Suva last Saturday. Ms Vulakoro had won the best stage entertainer artist (iTaukei).

“I was shocked to hear my name as the award winner because I did not expect it, even though I was invited to attend the awards night,” she said.

“It feels great and I am grateful for the recognition given by Procera Music Fiji. I thank God for my talent and my band boys because I could not have done it without them.

“I do not sing to win an award. I am passionate about music. I do it for me, my family and my fans,” Ms Vulakoro said. Sponsor of the awards night, Sambhu Lal Construction managing director and also the winner of one of the best bhajan artist, Shiu Dayal, said his parents were the inspiration for his success.

Mr Dayal was a teacher for 27 years and singing and performing live were a passion.

“It was my dad’s dream for me to become a teacher and I fulfilled it. After his retirement, I took over his business and continued with my passion for music,” he said. “We pay so much for bringing in an international artist to Fiji for the shows and people pay a lot of money to go watch the show. But there are some people who believe in the local talents.”

Mr Dayal said he would continue to sponsor Procera Music and local talents and artists and urged them to continue with their passion for music. “These are the artists who shine because Fiji is filled with talents who people look up to.

“I have performed internationally and locally and I would like to urge young artists to strive for the best and keep performing and keep their passion for music,” Mr Dayal said.
