Janhvi Reveals Her Favourite Yesteryear Director

- Times of India Feedback: jyotip@fijisun.com.fj

She might have made her Bollywood debut in 2018, but Janhvi Kapoor loves movies of Hindi cinema’s golden era. The ‘Dhadak’ actress, while taking part in a conversation with her dad Boney Kapoor at the ongoing IFFI (in Goa), said that she loves the storytelling of that period. With a maturity that belies her age, Janhvi said that today, Bollywood films have become more commercial. She also added that back then, the actors and the subject of movies were more ahead of times. When asked which yesteryear filmmaker she would have loved to work with, given a chance, she named Guru Dutt.

She also had an interesting take on femalecentric films. Citing examples like ‘Mother India’, ‘Sita Aur Gita’, ‘ChaalBaaz’, ‘Bandhini’ and ‘Sujata’, she said that such films were always made in Hindi, but they were never tagged ‘female-centric’. She also said that apart from Bollywood, she would love to act in Malayalam films.

While the actress handled the media with the confidence of a pro, she told Bombay Times in an earlier interview that her parents — the late Sridevi and Boney Kapoor — had never pushed her into the limelight. She had said, “Khushi and I would always attend events with mom and dad. If mom was performing or getting an award somewhere, or dad was shooting, we would make it a family affair.

I happened to be with my parents on these occasions, hence, I was exposed to the media. People thought that my parents were pushing me into the limelight, but it was nothing like that.”
