1766 taxi permits up for grabs

There are 1766 taxi permits up for grabs by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) after it announced its first call for taxi permit applicatio­ns for the Central Division yesterday.

This Central Transport Zone includes Suva, Lami, Nausori, Korovou 1, Korovou 3 and Navua 2.

There are 1263 taxi permits for Suva, 51 taxi permits for Lami, 191 taxi permits for Nausori, 65 taxi permits for Korovou 1, 78 taxi permits for Korovou 3 and 118 taxi permits for Navua 2. The new taxi permit applicatio­n forms and checklists have been available from the LTA office since yesterday, and these forms can also be downloaded from their website, www.lta. com.fj.

Eligibilit­y Criteria:

The eligibilit­y of the applicant must comply with the Land Transport (PSV) (Amendment) Regulation­s 2017 Regulation SE (2), whereby it states that the applicant must apply within 21 days from the date of the advertisem­ent.

The applicatio­n should be in the prescribed form, with the prescribed fees. The applicant must be a Fijian citizen and reside within the transport zone. No conviction for any offence under Part 12B, 16 or 17 of the Crimes Act 2009.

Priority will be given to the applicant who does not hold a permit or has never had one and this also includes the members of the applicant’s household. The total annual income of the household must not exceed $20,000.

So far, 1558 new taxi permits have been issued in the Western Division.
