The Nadi Lions Club donated stationary sets and books to the children of Nadi Hospital on Wednesday with one aim – to assure them that this year’s Christmas will be a fun-filled one.

Nadi Lions Club president Manoj Jeet said the stationery sets and books were collected by all members of the club over the course of 2018.

He said this year the club members wanted the children at the hospital to have a smile on their faces this festive season despite the challenges they were going through. “The Lions Club, we mostly deal with charity work. We are involved in hospitals, already in eye clinics, with diabetes patients and this year we, especially for Christmas, wanted to do this for the kids of Nadi

Hospital,” he said.

“Usually we do the orphanages so we thought this year we do it for the kids in the hospital.”

Mr Jeet said the main objective of the club was to assist the needy in the communities around Fiji.

“We feel very excited and happy. At least we are doing something for the community, especially the hospital and that’s what our motive is – to help the needy,” he said. Nadi Hospital medical officer Dr Khizar Niazi acknowledged the club for its donation towards the children of Nadi Hospital.

He said when children received gifts it created an environment where they felt at ease.

“This will help us communicate better with them and it is an overwhelming feeling to see the children happy,” he said.
