Receive Money from Aust, NZ on phone and get bonus

Vodafone Fiji has launched a new “Send Money to Fiji’ service in partnershi­p with Ria Money Transfer. This will enable people in Fiji to receive money sent from Australia and New Zealand in seconds directly on their mobile phones.

Ria Money Transfer is one of the largest Money Transfer companies in the world and operates in more than 150 countries. In Australia and New Zealand, they have more than 700 physical outlets convenient­ly located in all major suburbs and shopping malls for people to access as ‘walk-in outlets and an online money transfer platform in Australia (www.riamoneytr­ansfer. com.au).

Direct person to person money transfers to Fiji from former Fijians living and working in Australia and New Zealand forms a significan­t amount of foreign remittance­s into Fiji.

The service is critical to many Fijians who rely on money sent from families’ abroad to meet their daily needs.

“To be able to now receive money in seconds at any time and anywhere in Fiji directly on your mobile phone is of great convenienc­e to the people,” said Shailendra Prasad, Head of eCommerce and Corporate Affairs at Vodafone Fiji.

Money transfers through mobile phones are fast becoming the popular means of sending money around the world because of the ease and convenienc­e it offers.

“We are, therefore, delighted to partner Ria Money Transfer to offer this service from Australia and New Zealand to our customers on the Vodafone network.”

Expansion in the Pacific

The partnershi­p between Vodafone Fiji and Ria is a milestone in Ria’s expansion plans in the Pacific.

The service has been approved by the Reserve Bank of Fiji in compliance with the FTR Act. Each year around FJ$600m is received in inward remittance­s by Fijians. Vodafone’s partnershi­p with Ria provides a very affordable, fast and extremely secure network to facilitate sending money to Fiji. “Vodafone Fiji guarantees that any money sent via Ria to M-PAiSA users in Fiji will be received on their mobile within seconds of it being processed,“said Mr Prasad.

A text message will also be sent to the recipient confirming the receipt of the money in their M-PAiSA account.

To access this service, the sending party in Australia and New Zealand walks into any convenient­ly located Ria outlet and requests the M-PAiSA mode of sending money to Fiji.

The sender needs to provide the Fiji Vodafone or Inkk mobile number of the recipient.

Once the money is sent, the recipient is able to use M-PAiSA service to top up their etransport card, pay for water and electricit­y bill, purchase prepaid power, make merchant payment, top up their mobile phones or walk into any convenient­ly located MPAiSA outlet around the country to cash out.

As an introducto­ry offer, those who use the Ria and M-PAiSA mode to receive money from Australia and New Zealand will also receive an additional $20 cash bonus instantly in their M-PAiSA Account for any amount exceeding $240.

Usaia Tukana from Naitasiri who receives money regularly from his son in Australia said: “I just received $250 from my son in Melbourne for my Christmas shopping and was pleasantly surprised to receive an additional$20 cash in my M-PAISA account plus $10 free talk time for my phone. “I thank Vodafone and Ria for making this a memorable Christmas for me and my family,” said Mr Tukana.
