Fijian-born Corporal Ronil Singh was the first ever officer with the Newman Police Department in Modesto, California to be killed in the line of duty. The Newman Police Department chief Randy Richardson said this during a press conference in California yesterday. He was emotional when he described the type of person Corporal Ronil Singh was.

“This is not a big department but a department of 12 men. This is a man that I saw every day he worked,” Chief Richardson said. “This is a man that I relieved on Christmas day so he could go home and spend time with his family and his newborn child.

“I think that of what’s being lost here is, yes, he was a Police officer and that’s why all of you are packed in this room -- because he was tragically taken from us. “But, what needs to be known is he was truly just a human being and an American patriot.

“Ronil was not born in America. He was born in Fiji and came to this country with one purpose and that was to serve this country. You have never seen a man smile more than him. He was never in a bad mood. He loved what he did, he loved being a Police officer, he loved being a husband and he loved being a father. You must understand that this was not suppose to happen.”

Chief Richardson said his department was trying to keep it together.

“I did not know that on Christmas morning at 4am I would be saying goodbye to him would be the last time I saw him,” he said.

“My department is struggling and we are struggling through this. He was proud to wear the uniform. He will never see his five months old baby talk, walk and get to hold his little boy.

“Please help us find this man and bring him to justice. I hope he is watching and does the right thing and turns himself in.”

Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, Sheriff Adam Christianson said they were pursuing every lead.

“We have identified a suspect in this case and we are actively pursuing every lead,” Sheriff Christianson said. “We have multiple leads that we are following.

“We will continue to hunt our suspect down and bring him to justice.

“The suspect is in our country illegally. He does not belong here , he is a criminal and we will arrest him and we will bring him to justice.”

The suspect is still on the run. The Police has found the truck that the suspect was driving when corporal Singh stopped him because the truck did not have a licence plate. Corporal Singh was killed on Boxing Day.

He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

He is survived by his wife Anamika Chand-Singh and five- month-old-son Arnav Singh.

The 33-year-old originally from Navua was a Police officer at the Newman Police Department in California.

He was shot when he was called in at a traffic stop at Merced Street and Eucalyptus Avenue on Wednesday morning (Carlifonia time).
