Red Cross, Ola Fou (Fiji) Trust Seal Historic MOU
AMemorandum of Understanding to provide Disaster Management Support to the Ola Fou (Fiji) Trust organisation was signed on December 18, in partnership with the Fiji Red Cross Society.
The Ola Fou (Fiji) Trust organisation sought the assistance of the Fiji Red Cross Society for their wide experience and expertise in disaster management support and other identified services such as the Youth advocacy, First Aid and other training programmes. The agreement was signed by the Director General of the Fiji Red Cross Society, Filipe Nainoca and the Manager of Ola Fou (Fiji) Trust, Amani Waqetia.
“The signing of the MOU marks the commencement of a partnership of cooperation, collaboration and support in provision of Disaster training in preparedness, disaster prevention, disaster assessment and relief, early warning systems, First Aid, health in emergencies, youth development, advocacy and leadership,” Mr Nainoca said.
Mr Waqetia said in his response that, “Fiji Red Cross Society plays a vital role during times of emergency and disaster and the trainings and support that Red Cross will provide will enhance and boost the youth skills in responding to an emergency. “Being a Youth organisation that primarily supports and develops Youths, this is crucial for our needs.” FRCS Director General, Mr Nainoca also said that this was a historical moment since this will also empower our volunteers and youths to partake in other programmes provided by Ola Fou (Fiji) Trust.
“As an auxiliary to the Government and partner in Disaster Response and Recovery, we at Fiji Red Cross look forward in getting support from such an organisation and we are confident that this partnership will continue to strengthen our relationship in the future,” he said.
The Memorandum will come into effect on January 1, 2019.
