Afamily of three at Nakama, more than 10 kilometres from Labasa, are thankful for the prompt Police response to their call for help after an intruder allegedly tried to break into their home on Friday night.

Nirbhay Chand, 52, his wife Sarita Wati, 42 and their daughter Arishma Chand, 21 were inside their house at around 11.30pm when the incident happened.

“We are so thankful to the Labasa Police for responding quickly to our call and coming to assist us,” said Mr Chand.

He said despite it being almost midnight, Police officers sent to the scene managed to locate their home in the interior of Nakama.

“We were really horrified after the incident, but the two officers told us that they would stay with the family in order to guarantee our safety,” Mr Chand said. “They were also willing to stay for the night with us because we were really frightened,” he said.

The officers left the house at about 3am, after arriving at midnight. This was after they inspected the area near the house.

Mr Chand said the Police officers gave the family an emergency response number which they could dial at any moment.

“They told us that they would be here for us at any moment if we were in need,” he said.

His wife said she had been horrified after the incident, but was at ease after the assurance by the two officers. The person who allegedly tried to break into their house fled and the family has lodged a complaint as well. Divisional Police Commander Northern Senior Superintendent of Police Eparama Waqa confirmed the incident.

SPP Waqa urged people to secure their homes and properties in order to avoid intruders breaking in. SSP Waqa also said that the Police team was there to respond to people’s needs.
