Two Weather systems heading our way
Two weather systems bringing rain to the country are heading our way. The first Tropical Disturbance, TD03F is expected close to Fiji today. The second is forcasted for Saturday. The information has been provided by Windy, the international real time weather forecasting website. Meanwhile, residents of the Ba, Tavua and Rakiraki areas have begun preparations for their safety as they brace for the worst as Tropical Disturbance, TD03F threatens the country.
Tavua resident, Premila Devi, 46, said her family had started nailing the roof of their house from Sunday.
Ms Devi who lost her previous house to Tropical Cyclone Winston said it was better to be safe than to be sorry.
“This is my new house and I am afraid the Tropical Depression might damage it just like how TC Winston damaged my previous house,” she said.
“It is good to be ready and safe you never know what happens at the last hour.”
Ba Town Council chief executive officer, Dip Narayan said the council workers had worked in advance by cleaning and clearing drains yesterday, especially for the low lying areas.
“We also advised the market vendors to keep a minimum amount of stock in the market,” he said.
“For low lying areas, like Yalalevu, Ba various evacuation centres will be open to those who will expe- rience flooding in their homes.” Mr Narayan has urged all those living in low lying areas to take heed and be safe.
Rakiraki Town Council acting chief executive officer, Tulsi Ram said the council workers also attended to cleaning and clearing drains yesterday.
“There is a contractor who is doing a major clean up of the drains in the town,” he said.
Mr Ram has also warned members of the public in Rakiraki to be aware of the news updates and be cautious at all times.
