BETWEEN THE LINES THE TRADITION

WHEN IDs GO OUT
It appears that some nightclubs are no longer checking identification cards (IDs) of patrons.
BTL has been informed that students, who are under-age and should not be in nightclubs, are now seen regularly in clubs. Does the rule change during the school holidays? Of course not.
But it is normal now in some clubs not to check IDs.
The question that needs to be asked is: What are those bouncers doing? Maybe it’s time for the relevant authorities to pay a visit..
DEFIANT ISLANDERS
In the wake of a strong warning from the Police and Fijian Navy, against venturing out to sea in this inclement weather, it is disappointing to note that two boats left Lovu Village in Gau for Suva yesterday.
This act of defiance is not only stupid but worrying for the authorities because seven men from that island are still missing at sea although their boat has been found.
A local district rep tried to stop the occupants from leaving but he got to the jetty late. The two boats left very early in the morning. There is a perception that the sea is usually calm at this time.
That is not always the case as mariners will tell you.
This practice will only stop if the authorities round up those responsible and hold them accountable for ignoring advice..
NEW CLAN TITLE DISPUTE
The two claimants of the Wailevu clan leader (Turaga ni Mataqali) in Nacavanadi, Gau, have been told the case is now on hold after Police intervention.
Only one of the two candidates is the rightful title holder..
