THIRD QUARTER OF 2018 CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY UPDATE
The total estimated value of work putin-place by registered private building and civil works contractors engaged in work for both private sector and the Government was $151.8 million for the September quarter of 2018.
Total value of work put in place increased by 2.4 per cent ($3.5 million) when compared to the June quarter of 2018. Total value of work put in place increased by 11.8 per cent ($160 million) when compared to the September quarter of 2017. The construction statistics were recently released by the Fiji Bureau of Statistics.
Value of Work Done for Private Sector and General Government : From the total estimated value of $151.8 million, for work done in September quarter of 2018: 67.5 per cent was in the private sector:
Total value of work done attributed to the private sector was up by 2.2 per cent ($2.2 million) when compared to the June quarter of 2018 and 13.5 per cent ($12.2 million) when compared to the September quarter of 2017.
32.5 per cent was in the general Government;
Total value of work done for General Government was up by 2.8 per cent ($1.4 m) when compared to the June quarter of 2018 and 8.3 per cent ($3.8 million) when compared to September quarter of 2017.
Value of Work Done for new building, current repairs and maintenance and civil engineering
From the total estimated value of $151.8 million, for work done in September quarter of 2018:
New buildings and capital repairs accounted for 53.2 per cent;
Total value of new buildings and capital repairs was up by 3.2 per cent ($2.5 m) when compared to the June quarter of 2018 and 13.1 per cent ($9.3 million) when compared to the September quarter of 2017.
Current repairs and maintenance accounted for 8.6 per cent:
Total value of current repairs and maintenance was up by 4.7 per cent ($0.6 million) compared to June quarter of 2018 and 30.1 per cent ($3.0 million) when compared to September quarter of 2017.
Civil engineering works accounted for 38.2 per cent:
Total value of civil engineering works was up by 0.7 per cent ($0.4 million) compared to June quarter of 2018 and 6.6 per cent ($3.6 m) when compared to September quarter of 2017.
