MPs Commend People for Staying out of Tribal Fights
The people of Naur-Gor in the Waiya local-level government of Kundiawa-Gembogl have been praised for staying out of tribal fights and maintaining peace in the past 13 years. Kerowaghi MP Bari Palma and Moresby North-East MP John Kaupa praised the United Naur-Gor Organisation leaders on Saturday during the 13th anniversary celebration.
Palma said the people of Naur-Gor had set an example for the whole of Chimbu when they denounced tribal fights and declared peace. “The foundation of all forms of development and change we see in the world today is peace,” Palma said.
“What the people of Naur-Gor have done in the last 13 years has paved the way for a massive transformation. Today, Naur-Gor is a peaceful place.
“It has produced 10 medical doctors, accountants, lawyers and teachers. It is the result of the peace initiative established here.
“It’s a lesson for all of Chimbu. As the MP for Kerowaghi, we will learn from them and roll out the enforcement of peace and denounce tribal fights for our people too.” Palma urged the people to put God first and prioritise education and developments for a better life at all levels.
He also praised Catholic priest Fr Jan Jaworski, the doctor at the Sir Joseph Nombri Memorial Kundiawa General Hospital for helping to introduce the community law which is now reaping dividends. Many commended Jaworksi for being the paramount chief of Naur-Gor and for leading changes in the area.
