Labasa Businesswoman Gives Children a Chance at Education
Over the past eight years, Anshu Lata has been conducting a book drive and getting money from her own pocket to help underprivileged children get back to school.
This year, the Labasa woman who owns a creative arts business has done it again thanks to her group of volunteers and donors.
“I have managed to have proper stationery during my time, but seeing those in need is something that inspired me to reach out to the less fortunate members of our communities,” she said.
“Members of my team have been overwhelmed because people start showing interest in the book drive. “We were encouraged to see more people ready to help us in this worthy cause.”
Ms Lata said Government’s provision of free education up to secondary school level in Fiji was commendable.
“The Government initiative has taken some burden off the shoulders of parents and guardians and I’m really happy to see more students getting a good education,” she said.
“My team will liaise with school heads in identifying students who need this help.
“Our target is also to assist students with special needs because they too are equal members of the society.” Ms Lata said that providing them with assistance would in turn be a step forward for everyone.
“Let’s get together and help our children,” she said.
