Narayan Plans To Build Tiny Homes Stronger Than Cyclones
Siwan Narayan, 24, originally from Velovelo, Lautoka is a successful Youth Entrepreneur Scheme (YES) recipient. His proposal is to build affordable, stronger and comfortable small homes.
Mr Narayan is a graduate with Electrical Electronics Engineering from the University of the South Pacific in 2018. He is said to be the brains behind Tiny Home’s Construction.
“I want to provide houses that are not only sustainable, but also easily affordable and durable.
“The priority of my business is to help families and not just make a profit.
“We are the cheapest construction business in town right now.” He does his own designs, modelling and after consulting with the families on their needs, he liaises with his architect and they draw the whole plan.
Even though the house is small, Mr Narayan assured that the plans would follow a certain standard which could sustain Category 3 or 4 and even Category 5 cyclones. “We are giving them shutters, hurricane screws and provisions to allow ropes and cables to tie the house down.
“Termite infestation is a major problem and we are trying to rebuild houses which families lost during this period. The timber we use is treated, so it won’t affect the business.
“We also give the customers our ideas and we provide them with cheaper alternatives,” he said He added as a young entrepreneur, there are risks and especially in the construction business, weather is a pivotal factor.
“As an entrepreneur, you need to identify the risks and revise realistic ways to be able to manage those risks,” said Mr Narayan. While growing up, he helped his father in his construction business and that inspired him to work hard and provide a better life for his parents.
Mr Narayan also expressed his gratitude to the government for creating capital investment for youths.
“It is good for youths because capital is the main issue for budding entrepreneurs nowadays.
“The work field has a lot of graduates who are seeking jobs, but if people can come up with innovative ideas this would be a good platform for them ,” he said.
