Families of the seven Gau men, who went missing at sea last month, were given 14 bags of rice and flour from Punjas Fiji .

Punjas Fiji director, Kantilal Punja donated the seven bags of 10kg long grain rice and seven bags of 10kg flour at the company’s head office in Lautoka yesterday.

Mr Punja said the Punjas Fiji group was. “We are lending a helping hand to the families of the seven victims by giving them food items to support them because they lost their families . The least we can do is to help them with food,” he said.

Maca Bola, who is the wife of the captain (Josevata Bola) of the yellow fibreglass boat the men were on when they went missing, said she was grateful to Punjas Fiji for its kind donation.

“It is great to know that some people are thinking about us during this these difficult times,” she said.

“For the kind donation from Punjas I would like to thank the company for it’s moral support and help towards our families.” Asaeli Tokalauvere, 61, who regarded the seven men as his family, was emotional when he learned of the contribution.

“I was in tears because of this generous gesture from Mr Punja even though this is the first time ever for me to walk into the office and see him,” he said. “This means a lot because the gifts are coming from someone I don’t know, it is from a person who has a heart to help my families.” Mr Tokalauvere said it was also one way of remembering their loved ones who were lost at sea.
