Investing in your child’s education is a must

Today is the third day of the 2019 school term one and for Parents and guardians should support their children’s education.

For this to happen, you must spend more quality time with them.

In this fast-paced world, we have to make space for our kids, and assure them that we care about them and will always be there as pillars of support.

They need our love, kindness, and strength, so that they feel secure and confident with themselves.

No matter how busy or how wound up with chores you may be, always remember to hug your children and let them know that you love them. You’d be surprised if you found out how much these gestures matter, in the long run.

An educationist said – “Learning doesn’t stop when the school day ends. A child absorbs as much or more at home and through his or her experiences as through a textbook.”

To support your children’s education make sure they have a quiet place to study at home.

Monitor their homework. Check their homework every night, not just to see whether it’s done, but also for quality.

Praise their efforts. Children learn best by positive reinforcement. Whenever you have an opportunity, praise them for the wonderful work they have done. Encourage learning at home. Talk about something in the news or a book he or she just read.

An educationist said – “Fostering full-time learning is one of the best ways you can equip your children for life after graduation and future success.”

Take heed of Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama’s advice when he said – “As students, when you take responsibility for your education, you give yourself the opportunity to become the Fijians you want to be. The type of Fijians your family, friends and community can count on, and that our nation needs if we are to build on all of our great progress.

“Taking responsibility for your education means respecting and listening to your teachers. It means being kind to your classmates. It means putting your best foot forward; working hard, reading, studying and asking questions. And it means thinking seriously about your future. Because, rest assured, no matter where you want to go in life, you will need an education to get there.” Parents and guardians should be happy that we have a Government that prioritises education and has taken away the heavy education burden like paying school fees, textbooks are free, free bus fares and many more.

For this the Ministry of Education has a one billion dollar budget.

Support your children’s education because it is a big investment for you and your future.

The late President Nelson Mandela said - “Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that a son of a mineworker can become the head of the mine and that a child of farm workers can become the president of a nation.”
