Vehicle boost for Sigatoka Special School

Sigatoka Special School received a new vehicle from its corporate partners. The project was possible with the assistance of $35000 from the Asco Motors Foundation and $20000 from the Ministry of Education. This was in addition to the funds raised during the 2018 Outrigger Walk for Kids that was held in April 2018.

Sigatoka School for Special Education head teacher Asenaca Sukanatabu­a thanked the Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort, Asco Motors Foundation and the Ministry of Education for its commitment to the community.

She acknowledg­ed that the contributi­on takes them a step closer to their aim of reaching out to the interior of Nadroga Navosa. Ms Sukanatabu­a said, “When these assets are brought in to the school it is a big boost for the betterment of these students. A big thanks to the stakeholde­rs for assisting us in this manner.”

Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort general manager Russell Blaik commended his hardworkin­g sales and reservatio­ns team for their efforts and expressed gratitude to all stakeholde­rs for their continued support.

“At Outrigger, education is among the important things to do. Students, you’re our leaders of tomorrow so we have to equip you no matter if you come from the city or the rural area,” he said.

“As part of our annual Walk for Kids which our Sales and Reservatio­ns team have embarked on as their community project, their goal for last year’s event was to assist raise funds to purchase a vehicle for the students of Sigatoka Special School. We cannot do this project alone so Asco Motors has come on board,” Mr Blaik said.

In accepting the vehicle, Ministry of Education regional education officer Setareki Rika, applauded the initiative.

Asco Motors Regional Manager (West) Maika Moce said, that the foundation is proud to be part of the project. Meanwhile, the Outrigger Walk for Kids is an annual event and aims to create awareness and acceptance of the needs children with special needs have.

The next Walk event will be held on April 6, 2019.
