5500 TINs in 15 days

Atotal of 5558 traffic infringements have been served from January 1 to 15, 2019, says Director Traffic and Senior Superintendent of Police Mahesh Mishra. Statistics shared by SSP Mishra for the period revealed that two fatal accidents were also recorded. Meanwhile, speeding tops the list

of traffic offences with 2774 drivers charged.

For this period, 206 drivers were charged for careless driving, five charged for driving without a licence, 18 for driving with expired drivers licences and 46 drivers charged for failing to produce a driving licence.

In light of this, SSP Mishra said, drivers must take responsibility and need to respect the rule of law. “We have already lost two lives this year and we would like to remind drivers to be more vigilant and take responsibility and ownership of road safety,” he said. “There have been 59 cases of people arrested for drink and driving this year and multiple cases of speeding and careless driving, so drivers need to take road safety more seriously.”

The total includes 85 charges for not wearing seat belts, 10 for illegal operations, 808 charges made after random breath tests and 2383 other charges. Meanwhile, the number of traffic infringements served from the December 1, 2018 to January 15, 2019 was 18,751.

Of this, 9826 drivers were charged with speeding, 747 charged with careless driving and 253 for not wearing seat belts.

190 arrests were made for drunk driving.

Among the total charges made, 84 people were charged for driving with expired licences, 237 for failing to produce a licence, 51 drivers charged for illegal operation and 7467 for other offences.

Mr Mishra has advised parents and children to take extra care when using roads and ensure that road rules are followed at all times.

“School is now open and we would like to urge our children to be mindful of how they are supposed to use the road and for parents and guardians to take the necessary steps and teach kids about road safety,” he said.
