Savu scoops top award

Fiji Airways 7s Fijiana rep Asinate Savu won the women player of the tournament award yesterday.

She featured for the Fijiana Development 7s side that defeated Marist Seahawks 22-5 in the final of the Outrigger Fiji Na-Iri trophy at the Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

“I’m happy to be named the best player of the tournament. It was a great tournament and we happy to be part of it,” she said.

“We are really proud because our aim was to finish top and win the tournament.

She is confident of being part of the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s for the upcoming Women 7s Series in Sydney next month.

Fiji Airways Fijian Development wing Luisa Tisolo scored two tries in their 22-5 victory over Marist Seahawks One in the final of the Outrigger Fiji Na-Iri trophy at the Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka yesterday. The other tries came from Litia Naiqato, and Asinate Savu while their opponents scored through Roela Radiniyavuni. Fijiana had the likes of Ana Roqica, 19 year old Tokasa Seniyasi, Merewalesi Rokovono, Rusila Nagasau, Lavenia Tinai, Ana Maria Neimasa, and Vasiti Solokoviti. Team captain Rusila Nagasau said: “For us it was the big challenge to go against the Seahawks as we were in the same pool.

“It was not about the last game but it was about how the girls worked together and the girls took us to the place where we ought to be – winners.”

The Seahawks had former Fijiana reps Joana Sauto, Sera Joma, football rep Viniana Rawai, and Rusila Tamoi.

The Fijiana defeated Star USA women in the Cup quarterfinal 31-0 and walloped Scion Woo (USA) 29-5.

The Seahawks on the other hand defeated Nadi Blazers 31-14 in quarters before it send the defending champions out in the semifinal 24-14.
