Newly-inducted Deenbandhu Primary School head girl Almas Biribo has credited her family for being her pillar of strength.

Speaking after the school’s prefects’ induction ceremony at Jai Narayan College Hall yesterday, Almas dedicated her appointment to her parents. She said she was honoured to be named head girl and wanted to fulfil her responsibilities to the best of her abilities.

“I will do my best to be a very good role model to the students. The struggle I face at times is student discipline and trying to manage students and ensure discipline is hard,” Almas said.

The 13-year-old is the third eldest of six siblings and lives at Nabua, Suva, with her family. She has not decided on the career she wants to pursue, but adds that she wishes to get a scholarship to study overseas. Newly-appointed head boy Ravinesh Jeet has set his sights on becoming an astronaut and has set plans for his future studies.

“I want to study at Oxford University (one of the world’s oldest and prestigious universities in southwest England),” he said.

The 13-year-old said he was proud to be the first in his family to be appointed head boy. He is the youngest of six siblings.

“I will do my best and I dedicate this to my parents,” he said.

Ravinesh would like to go to Jai Narayan College next year.
