Traffic lights upgrade

The Fiji Roads Authority has completed the upgrading of the traffic signal lanterns to LED’s, but still have more work to do.

The sites which have been upgraded are:

Lakeba Street/Ratu Mara Road intersecti­on;

Grantham Road/Kings Road intersecti­on;

Nabua / Kings/ Luke Road intersecti­on; Cunningham intersecti­on; Center Point Intersecti­on; Kinoya/Khalsa road Intersecti­on and

Laqere/King’s road intersecti­on.

The Samabula intersecti­on is one of the busiest, it said and upgrades needed to be done, but planned properly during off-peak hours.

General manager for the inhouse electrical team, Musheer Khan said: “The FRA team is now working at the Fiji National University (FNU) Samabula intersecti­on and anticipate on completing this work in two months’ time,” he said.

Apart from the upgrading works,

Whilst the FRA continues to improve its electrical infrastruc­ture, it’s biggest concern is careless drivers Musheer Khan Fiji Roads Authority General Manager for the in-house electrical team.

Mr Khan said the FRA would soon be tendering out the major upgrade of the existing traffic signals in Suva Central Business District (CBD), Lautoka CBD as well as new installati­on of traffic signals at the high priority intersecti­ons and pedestrian crossings.

“Whilst the FRA continues to improve its electrical infrastruc­ture, it’s biggest concern is careless drivers.The upgraded traffic signal at Laqere/King’s Road intersecti­on had been damaged three times already because vehicle accidents.”
