- WATI TALEBULA Edited by Susana Tuilau Feedback: SCHOOL LEADERS wati.talebula@fijisun.com.fj

Leadership is not about holding a position but about leading by example, says newly appointed head boy Sakiusa Waqasesara of Namara District School (NDS) in Tailevu yesterday.

The 13-year-old said he was ready to face challenges ahead of him.

Sakiusa hails from

Natila Village in Bau,

Tailevu and has maternal links to Matamaivere village in Namara, Tailevu.

“I am the first head boy of the family. I joined NDS in Year

One but I never expected that I would be given the privilege to lead the school. My parents were shocked when I told them that I was going to be the head boy,” Sakiusa said.

“I thank the teachers for believing in me. I dedicate my appointment to my parents who always believed in me. My parents are farmers and I want to give back to them. I want to make them proud.” Head girl, Elenoa Taubale, never expected her new appointment because she joined the school in Year Six.

The 12-year-old hails from Dakuloa Village in Oneata, Lau, and has maternal links to Tubalevu Village in Namara, Tailevu.

“I will work with the head boy, prefects and teachers to ensure that discipline is maintained throughout the year. It will not be easy but I believe I have what it takes to fulfill my new role.”
