Poch: Spurs will be remembered as heroes

Football update

- London:

Tottenham’s players will go down in history whether they win the title or not, due to the effort they have put in this season, according to manager Mauricio Pochettino. Spurs kept pace with title rivals Manchester City and Liverpool as they beat Leicester 3-1 at Wembley on Sunday, and will now switch focus to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The German league leaders will have an extra day’s preparation for the game having drawn 3-3 with Hoffenheim on Saturday, another circumstance Pochettino has been left lamenting this season.

The Tottenham manager has been on the back foot since the start of the season. Battling against a lack of investment, a fatigued squad following a taxing World Cup and the constant state of flux hanging over the club thanks to delays at the new stadium. Pochettino has cited the scheduling as a latest hurdle for his squad to clear.

He also bemoaned a week earlier in the season when Spurs played Manchester City in the League at Wembley on Monday and West Ham in the League Cup on Wednesday, though that was due to NFL games being hosted at Wembley over the weekend. Given their standing in the League and Europe after such a season, Pochettino said his players will be Tottenham heroes whether they win anything this year or not.
