Local boxers get Oz invite

Local boxers have been invited to take part in programmes in Australia next month.

Boxing Commission Fiji (BCF) chairman Bulutani Mataitawak­ilai confirmed Franco Fraser, Rakuro Daunivavan­a, Edriel Nichalas Thein, Felix William Chongsue, Gaberieli Ravalawa and Siliveni Nawai will feature in the Steel City Boxing Promotion on March 1 at Australian Technology Park, Eveleigh, NSW and at the JNI Promotions, Hurstville Entertainm­ent Centre, NSW on March 8.

Kumar and Naivalu appointed

BCF has appointed Mulomulo Boxing trainer/coach Chanchal Kumar and former US profession­al athlete/Buca Bay Boxing Club trainer Jovesa Naivalu to take the boxers to Australia on February 27. They will be accompanie­d by BCF board member Usman Ali.

In addition, Naivalu, who is a qualified strength & conditioni­ng coach, will conduct training for trainers this year.

Kavika and Nalawa sign deal

Meanwhile, Navosa heavyweigh­t Jonasa Kavika and Jim Nalawa formerly of Lion Boxing Club in Lautoka have signed deals with New Zealand and Australian clubs.

“We are grateful that opportunit­ies are beginning to open up for our local boxers,” he added.

- Gaberieli Ravalawa vs Adam Chebib (Lightweigh­t)
