Aleader is one who has a heart to serve others with humility and lead people on the right path without being bossy or rude.

These were the sentiments of the newly inducted head girl, Mere Rebecca Adireki, of AD Patel College, in an interview after the school’s prefects’ induction ceremony yesterday. “The head girl’s role came as a surprise to me, but I feel inspired and honored to be a role model to everyone who looks up to me,” Mere said.

“I felt more happy and honored when my mother came up to the stage to pin the head girl badge on me.”

Mere wants the school’s student council to be more active, so members become more responsible and attentive to their respective roles. “Being the first in our family to be named a head girl I’m not only a leader in school, but also a role model to my younger siblings who look up to me,” she said.

“Knowing the role will be a great challenge I am sure I have a great team to work with and share the load.

“I will also work hard in school as I aspire to become a pilot.”

Meanwhile, the newly inducted head boy, Ricky Rikesh Chand, wants to guide his fellow students on the right path with his leadership style.

The 17-year-old, who aspires to become a programmer, wants his student council to share the work load so that they can also pursue their academic dreams.

“I believe in leaders who can serve and inspire others by their leadership quality. School principal Dinesh Kumar said both head prefects were selected because they were the best role models for students of the school.
