To be a leader is to serve others faithfully and to make the right decision at the right time.

These were the words of the newly inducted head boy of Dilkusha Boys School Kinivilame Tui Brian Vakayatu Keteca last week. The 13-year-old hails from Mualevu village in Vanuabalavu, Lau and has maternal links to Somosomo village in Gau, Lomaitivi. He said he would work with the prefects to ensure that discipline was maintained in the school. “It is a humbling honour to be chosen as the head boy for the school. It was always my plan to be the head boy of the school and I am happy that I have achieved my goal,” Kinivilame said.

“I will ensure that discipline is maintained in the school and action speaks louder than words. “I need to be a good role model in all that I do. I dedicate my appointment to my parents, teachers and especially God who has always been there for me.”

The chief guest, Chief Operations Officer, ACP Maretino Qiolevu, in his address, reminded the students to do their duties diligently.

“As a student of Dilkusha Boys Primary, this is your community your home away from home so to speak. Here you will forge friendships that last a lifetime. There’s a saying that goes, ‘friends become families’, meaning your friends are so close to you that you are practically brothers and sisters,”

he said.

“Just as you don’t want any harm to befall your family at home, the same should be applied here in school – where you look out for one another and support each other. “I may be standing in front of you today as a Police officer, but I am also standing here as a parent and a father whose desire is to nurture and share words of wisdom to help you realise your full potential.”
