Seeing her single mother struggle has made the newlyappointed head girl, Ashweta Prasad, of Bhawani Dayal Arya College strive to do her best in whatever role she has been given. A tearful Ashweta described how the sight of her mother struggling always made her vow to make her proud.

Ashweta was also the head girl of Samabula Primary School.

“I was being raised by a single mother and it was hard to see her struggle to ensure that my brother and I were happy. Her struggles have motivated me to do my best in whatever I do. I hope to make her happy,” the 19-year-old said. “My mother has moulded in me leadership qualities in me. I wasn’t expecting to be named the head girl of the school because I joined in Year 11.

“I am happy that the teachers believed in me and gave me this responsibility. “We have a good team of prefects this year and I believe that nothing will be impossible for us if we all work together.

“I believe my struggles has made me a better person.

“If I did not go through the struggles my family is facing then I would be spoiled and would not work hard.

“I thank God for always being there.”

Head boy, Ashitosh Prasad, wants to be a leader who sets examples for others.

The 18-year-old said he always dreamt of becoming a head boy one day.

“In primary school I was a deputy head boy, but never a head boy. Being named the head boy is a dream come true for me,” Ashitosh said.

“My parents also wanted me to become a head boy and I am glad that I am also fulfilling their dreams too. They were really happy when I told them that I was going to be the head boy.

“Being a leader is not about giving orders, but about doing things and let others follow you. “Being a leader is not about being superior over others, but it is about working together toward a common goal.”
