Parents an inspiratio­n to school leaders

Head boy Semesa Waqaninava­tu and head girl Merewalesi Nameha paid tribute to their parents as their inspiratio­n.

The two were badged with the rest of the student council members during the Sigatoka Methodist Primary School induction on Thursday.

Semesa, a Year Eight student wants to be a lawyer or a Police officer and believes that it is important to uphold the law at any cost in society.

“I want to be a lawyer or a Police officer since I view upholding law is paramount in society,” he said. “Discipline is very important and my parents and teachers did mould me well.”

Merewalesi who hails from Laselase Village in Nadroga said: “I want to be a nurse because I want to serve the Fijian people.

“I believe hard work is the key to succeed.”

Meanwhile, head teacher Nitya Gounder urged all parents to play their part in the education of their children.

He said Government initiative­s has now meant that parents responsibi­lities have been narrowed

to buy few things like uniforms, shoes, bags and stationary.

“I am very confident and consider it prudent that when all of us parents, students, teachers, Government and the community at large – work together as a team to properly educate our students today, our beloved nation will be the ultimate winner because they will be our leaders of tomorrow,” said Mr Gounder. The school was establishe­d in 1948 and currently stands with a school roll of 872 and 28 teachers.
