Pacific Take A Stand Video Competition Launched
The Pacific Islands have been some of the first countries in the world to bear the brunt of the damaging effects of climate change.
To give Pacific Islanders a chance to document their experiences and express their views on these changes, a new video competition has been launched by the European Union and is being implemented by Pasifika Communications.
Called “Pacific Take A Stand,” this video competition invites anyone between the ages of 10 to 35 years and a citizen of one of the 15 Pacific ACP countries to submit a video between one to five minutes in length. These videos must demonstrate the impact of climate change in their communities, together with their coping strategies.
The 15 countries eligible to enter include the Cook Islands, the Federated States of
Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Timor Leste, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu. Entries can be from individuals or groups. With the growing concern surrounding the impacts of climate change, the intent is to give Pacific Islanders a platform to make their voices heard and efforts counted. The winning video from this regional competition will be presented during the Pacific Resilience Meeting at the end of April followed by a launch at the Europe Day celebrations, which will be held in Suva in May 2019.
In addition to an all-expenses paid trip to Suva to attend the launch, the winning entrant will also receive a trophy, an Awards Certificate, and FJD$ 1000. A public favourite winner will be chosen on Facebook and will also receive an Awards Certificate and FJD$ 500.00.
Two other videos will also receive an Awards Certificate each and FJD$300 for second place and FJD$ 200 for third place respectively. The deadline for entries is April 1, 2019. SOURCE : Pasifika Communications
