Chinese Ambassador Qian Bo paid a courtesy visit to the main Fiji Sun Newsroom, at Gorrie Street in Suva.
He spoke with editors about the continued cooperation between the Chinese Embassy and the newspaper.

Ambassador acknowledges commitment
He acknowledged the Fiji Sun’s commitment to promoting informed journalism and a better understanding between China and Fiji.
China graduate
Last year Fiji Sun journalist Lusiana Tuimaisala was the first Pacific Islands graduate from the 10-month China Asia Pacific Press Centre (CAPPC) training programme.
She is now the Fiji Sun’s deputy managing editor business.
This year, Fiji Sun senior news journalist Fonua Talei is currently in Beijing as a participant in the 10-month programme. Ambassador Qian was accompanied on his visit by his wife Lu Qi, Li Jiabing, director of political division of the Chinese Embassy, and Chen Chen, press officer of the Chinese Embassy.

He was accompanied by managing editor training Nemani Delaibatiki, managing editor business Maraia Vula, managing editor digital Rosi Doviverata and Ms Tuimaisala.

Mr Lomas spoke of his deep appreciation of the opportunities for Fiji Sun editors and journalists to see and learn from China’s world leading development, including in areas such as technology. “We’ve had editors spending time at global innovators like Tencen and Alibaba seeing their e-commerce, artificial intelligence and internet development,” he said.
Courses
“We’ve had our people doing courses at China’s internationally recognised business and journalism schools. “We’ve had them at such media organisations as Xinhua, China Daily and Chinese Investment.
Partnership
“We’ve had them in Guandong, as part of this prosperous province’s growing partnership with Pacific Island Countries.
“Our North editor Shratika Naidu was recently part of young leaders programme in Guangdong.”
Mr Lomas thanked Ambassador Qian for so willingly helping continue to build the partnership, and its importance in building China-Fiji understanding.
Silk painting
Mr Qian gifted the Fiji Sun a copy of a classic Chinese silk painting by artist Lang Shiyuan called: “Duo Red-crowned Cranes Amid Blossoming China Rose.”
